Riso e Latte (MI)
In the heart of Milan, a small restaurant that looks like a movie set where everything, absolutely everything, is original from the 1960s, from the furnishings to the revisited recipes.
Riso e Latte, a truly unique place in the Milanese panorama, was born from the idea of Maurizia and Ettore to open a restaurant where they, as well as the customers, could really feel at home. What better idea then to furnish it as the one that for all of us is the “home” par excellence, that of our grandparents?
So, having found the perfect premises in a former shop near Via Meravigli, they started looking for objects from the 60s that they could use for the restaurant’s decor, starting from their parents’ house up to their friends’ basements, in order to recreate an environment that was, even in the smallest detail, original of the legendary Swinging Sixties.
We love and care a lot about this place, because it contains the historical memory of our families.
(Maurizia and Ettore, owners)
If for the generation of the 70s an experience at Riso e Latte brings back to the world of childhood, for the following ones it offers the magical experience of diving into the era that invented industrial design and “trying” some of the most iconic objects of that period like the legendary Bigrigio telephone or the Bialetti Moka with which coffee is served, rigorously prepared on the traditional stove.
The menu, orchestrated in the kitchen by the young chef Elvis, is made up of revisited “grandma’s” traditional Milanese recipes such as Riso e latte, the restaurant’s signature dish, Milanese risotto with saffron, beef tagliata of Piedmontese Fassona to finish with Tiramisù.
The raw material follows the same philosophy: all the products used come, in fact, from small family-run companies that observe an organic and/or sustainable supply chains such as the stone-ground organic flour of the Antico Molino Rosso in Verona, with which homemade pasta is prepared, the DOP saffron by the Antica Azienda Agricola Peltuinum or the organic cheeses of Cascina Selva, located in the Ticino natural park, which also supplies the butter with which it is cooked the very tender Milanese veal cutlet.
Even the desserts are strictly homemade with organic eggs produced by hens raised on the ground, fresh milk and the finest chocolate from Ecuador. And the bread? Obviously, you will be served the legendary and now extremely rare “michette“, prepared ad hoc for Riso e Latte by a historic baker in Milan.
Book one of the romantic and highly sought-after tables for two “in the window” and get ready for a truly unique experience, pampered by the smile of Eleonora, the restaurant manager.
The Secret
In the restaurant, you can find “precious” objects, such as nightgowns or suspenders, which belonged to the owners’ parents, as well as some of the original 1960s paintings that were painted by Maurizia’s father.
