Miro Osteria del Cinema (MI) — Lombardia Secrets

The first food and wine gourmet destination in a cinema in Italy, Miro is a charming osteria born in Milan inside the multiplex Anteo where everything, from the furnishings to the dishes, is inspired by cult films from the big screen.

In Moscova, the dream of every cinephile, but not only, comes true. The first “gourmet” osteria to open inside a cinema, Miro also has a strong identity that makes it a culinary destination independent of the place that hosts it.

Born from an idea and from the meeting between Andrea Vignali, lover of good food and communications manager, and Michele Siepi, entrepreneur in haute cuisine, who were soon joined by Daniele Rosa, maître, Miro comes to life in September 2021 inside what were once the stage and dressing rooms of Anteo Palazzo del Cinema.

We wanted to create something unique that could combine our love for good food, cinema and conviviality.

The building that houses Miro dates back to 1938: in the autumn of that year, the Cinema Teatro D’Annunzio, which had 600 seats, was inaugurated by the prefect of Milan.

Even the name, Miro, is a tribute to cinema, an art that invites you to “see” (mirare means to aim, to see in Italian) and not simply “look”, as well as to the origins of the owners, respectively from Milan and Romagna.

Built on two levels, the main room and the balcony from which it is still possible to see the wooden latches on which the ropes of the backdrops used on the stage ran, everything in the small restaurant recalls the “Tenth Muse”: from the red velvet curtains to the collection of VHS tapes that are shown during dinner on small screens.

From the ground floor you can access the “secret” garden, open in summer, a green oasis with intimate tables, sofas and low seats which borders the ancient fifteenth-century cloister of the Incoranata.

In the kitchen, chef Vincenzo Artadi, with experience in the Mandarin Oriental group, uses fresh seasonal ingredients which he interprets in traditional Italian dishes, with an international twist, which take inspiration from cult films and blockbusters scheduled at Anteo.

Like Norma Avvelenata (poisoned), with homemade pasta, tomato, aubergine, salted ricotta and a special “poisoned sauce” which harks back to the plot of Ugly, Dirty and Bad, or the Mora Romagnola rib steak, mashed potatoes and spinach dedicated to Asterix the Gallico, or the dessert based on crème brûlée and raspberries, symbol of The Fabulous World of Amélie.

The wine list, around 40 labels, recounts the best of the peninsula with some references to France, Germany and Slovenia where, obviously, there is no shortage of references to cinematography such as Tapioco, Come se fosse and Antani, wines from La Tognazza, a winery of the same name born from the imagination of the great actor Ugo Tognazzi.

Perfect for an aperitif or after dinner, the cocktail menu is also inspired by the world of cinema: from Mai Dire Thai, a tiki cocktail revisited with rhum arranged with pineapple and allspice, orgeat syrup and cinnamon, lime, ginger beer, to Lo Chiamavano Trinità, a drink by Julio Bermejo in a slightly spicy version with tequila, chilli agave syrup, lime.
