In the heart of Milan's Brera district, Enoteca Cotti, a city institution that has preserved the city's most authentic soul for over seventy years, is now undergoing an extraordinary rebirth that combines Italy's fine winemaking tradition with an exclusive hospitality concept.

History: Four Generations in the Heart of Brera

Originally founded as a wine shop in 1906, Enoteca Cotti’s turning point came in 1952 when the young Luigi Cotti, from a historic family of Piedmontese wine merchants, took over the business. Under his leadership, the wine shop transformed into a favorite gathering place for artists, intellectuals, and wine lovers.

In the 1980s, management passed to his son Giorgio Cotti and his wife Michela, who focused the business on the search for rare labels and fine spirits, a commitment rewarded in 2007 with the prestigious Ambrogino d’Oro.

The idea was born from the beauty and uniqueness of this place: a corner of Brera that tells a unique story we want to honor.

The new leadership, the Osteria delle Coppelle Group

In 2025, the Cotti family handed over the reins to the Osteria delle Coppelle Group. This synergy, which sees the fourth generation continue with Eleonora Cotti in the shop, marks the beginning of a contemporary chapter aimed at reviving the ancient and beloved wine bar business.

The Enoteca is connected to the other branches of the group in the Via Solferino area: the Osteria delle Coppelle, the nearby Salumeria, and a forthcoming artisan bakery dedicated to fine breadmaking.

The decor: a rare Art Nouveau gem

Entering Cotti is like taking an aesthetic journey back to the Belle Époque. The wine shop’s interior, unique in Italy, features original 1906 custom-made shelving in perfect Art Nouveau style.

The wine shop comprises five rooms, ten corner display cases overlooking the historic intersection of Via Solferino, and a monumental underground area that extends beneath the ancient Chiusa di San Marco.

Artist Labels and Cotti-Branded Products

During Brera’s golden years, Luigi Cotti would purchase works by the painters who frequented the establishment, reproducing them on silkscreened labels, numbered and hand-signed by the artists. A true ante litteram example of the fusion of art and wine, examples of which are still kept as collector’s items within the shop’s walls.

Today, the brand boasts over 30 own-brand products, including a selection of Italian wines, rare spirits, and an exclusive grappa.

The new direction: a haven from breakfast to dinner

At the Enoteca, the day begins with signature breakfasts featuring artisanal pastries and specialty coffee, followed by light lunches and brunches featuring risotto al salto and raw Fassona beef. It then lights up at sunset with the ritual of aperitivo, where the famous Cotti Tapas pair niche labels with fine vintage reds.

Until late at night, amidst soft lighting and monumental shelving, the venue transforms into a temple of atmospheric dining and meditative spirits, confirming itself as the perfect address for those seeking authentic and elegant Milanese excellence from dawn to midnight.

The Secret

The cellar on the basement level has been transformed into a private club reserved for wine lovers. The Caveau Cotti is a secret lounge nestled within brick vaults where members have access to their own personal cellar, private masterclasses, and out-of-print collectible bottles.
