Biancolatte (MI)
Open from breakfast to dinner, a magical place where you can always feel at home and pampered, letting yourselves go to the priceless pleasure of feeling like children again.
Since 2008, Biancolatte has been one of the most loved addresses in Milan, a “den” open from breakfast to dinner where children of all ages can feel at home and the protagonists of their own fairy tale. And it is no coincidence that the fil rouge is relaxation and fun because the place – bar, pastry shop, and artisan ice cream parlor – was born from the dream of a family that has made quality entertainment their life philosophy, being historical owners of cinemas. With these premises, Simona di Sarro, with her daughters Ludovica and Valentina, has created a sweet and relaxing place designed for adults who need to take a break from the stress of everyday life and become children again, even if only for the time of a coffee.
Today Valentina and Ludovica are the souls of Biancolatte who, together with the latter’s husband Andrea Rossini, famous interior architect, also the protagonist of the TV program Vendo (e Cerco) Casa Disperatamente, have created an innovative interior design that in Milan has made history. The concept was, in fact, to recreate the “home” of a family, the perfect environment in which to raise kids, with reassuring white walls covered with drawings made by children – many of the ones you see are from Ludovica’s son – soft toys on the shelves and many green plants.
We have created a place where everyone could feel like children again, even if only for the time of a coffee
(Ludovica, owner)
Biancolatte is divided into three areas that represent the same number of souls of the place: at the entrance, the coffee bar and the store, and after crossing a short corridor, the 2 bistro restaurant rooms and the pastry counter. Everything, as in a real home kitchen, is produced internally, from cakes to ice cream, and freshly prepared every morning with ingredients, mostly organic, that come from trusted local suppliers. Even the recipes are that of “home” because Ludovica wanted to include those of her grandmother in the menu, such as the apple pie and the shortcrust pastry – a must are the mignon pastry baskets – or given to her by loyal customers like that of the pear and chocolate charlotte cake.
Today everything you see in the restaurant is on sale, from the very popular white houses on the shelves to the cups with the signature logo with the three spoons: a way to encourage customers to recreate, even at home, a small relaxation area where they can get lost in their own enchanted world.
Faithful to the philosophy of “cuddling”, Biancolatte also houses a beautiful concept store, Biancolatte Hugs, dedicated to “hug therapy”. In addition to original gift ideas, accessories, and bijoux, the shop is famous for a rich selection of teddy bears and soft toys for children and adults, such as the very famous mascot of the shop, Huggy, the funny long-eared rabbit. So popular that in 2020 Biancolatte Hugs was the place in Italy that has sold most soft toys ever.
Like a real home, Biancolatte is always open, from 7.30 to 23 every day, and has become a cult reference point in Milan for both a quick breakfast, a business appointment, or a romantic candlelit dinner.
The Secret
A very popular dish is the Carbonara Biancolatte, prepared on the basis of a secret recipe provided by a cousin of Ludovica and designed to please children. Just think that it has become famous all over the world thanks to the famous actor Russell Crowe who, after having tried it, returned to the restaurant three mornings in a row just to taste it again.
