For almost 100 years, the "Gallia" with its majestic grand hotel charm has been the gateway par excellence to Milan, perfect, from the top of its panoramic seventh floor, for wonderful breaks with a view of the city skyline.
We are in the 1930s, and Carlo Gallia, after having gained experience in some of the most famous hotels of the time, in love with the “Art of the hotellerie”, returns to Milan and, in the excitement of the opening of the new Milan Central Station inaugurated in 1931, he gave life to his dream: a grand hotel of his own.
Thus, in 1932 the Excelsior Hotel Gallia was inaugurated and the epic of one of the most important hotels in the city began, an integral part of its past, present and future history. In 2015, a majestic restoration kicks off a new, significant chapter for the 5-star hotel, now owned by Katara Hospitality and part of The Luxury Collection® group, part of Marriott International, increasingly an international point of reference and, in particular, also for all those looking for a refuge while waiting to leave for a journey.
How can you forget arriving in Milan? (…) An immense station full of trains (…), majestic like an ancient temple; then suddenly the boundless square opens up, with the trees, the flowerbeds and the trams crisscrossing each other, the rows of taxis, the bright advertisements.

In fact, on its seventh floor there is the roof-top cocktail bar Terrazza Gallia, managed by the Lebano brothers with the advice of the Cerea family of the famous Da Vittorio restaurant, 3 Michelin stars.
Going up in the elevator, after having crossed the imposing atrium characterized by a spectacular 30-meter-high chandelier in Murano glass created by De Majo, the wonder of the renovation project curated by the Milanese architecture studio Marco Piva is revealed first.
Mirrors, marble and the iconic furniture of Made in Italy combine, in fact, with the Belle Époque soul of the hotel, forming the setting for a splendid terrace overlooking the Milanese skyline, which goes from the Central Station to the adjacent Pirelli Skyscraper by Giò Ponti, with furnishings designed by Fendi Outdoor, Knoll and Varaschin among others.
Here is the kingdom of chefs Vincenzo and Antonio Lebano and bar manager Andrea Griggion who are ready to pamper their guests with an all-day dining service from 12.30pm until 1am, perfect for a light lunch, an aperitif, an informal dinner or an after-dinner cocktail.
Try the pizza Nuvola and the montanarine (small fried pizzas), to be accompanied by the great revisited Milanese classics, such as the “Il Salotto di Milano” cocktail based on Gin District – Montenapoleone, Calvados Sélection Christian Drouin, Raspberry infused Campari and Vermouth di Torino Storico Cocchi, a reinterpretation of the classic Negroni whose name takes inspiration from a 1954 song by Dutch singer Peter Van Wood, dedicated to Milan.
Terrazza Gallia Bar & Restaurant hosts many themed events, such as the Lipstick Nights, on Thursday evenings, with female DJ sets, cocktails and specially designed dishes, on which you can stay updated by following the hotel’s social networks.
The Excelsior Hotel Gallia has 182 rooms, furnished with local artisan furniture and over 500 works of art, 51 themed suites, the Gallia Presidential Suite and the stunning Suite Katara Royal. The latest, of over 1000 m2 on the 7th floor, is one of the largest in Italy and offers 2 private terraces, the splendid exclusive Pagoda SPA with Jacuzzi tub, 4 rooms, including the Princess Suite, and, obviously, a reserved diplomatic entrance.
