Opened in 1910 in Tremezzina, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo has hosted the elite of the Grand Tour and divas such as Greta Garbo, who called it her "sunny, happy place." Today, thanks to the passion of the De Santis family, it has become the undisputed temple of the finest Italian hospitality.
The history of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo began in the early 1900s when Enea Gandola, a gentleman from Bellagio, following a trip to Europe with his wife Maria Orsolini, chose an extraordinary panoramic location, bordering the gardens of Villa Carlotta, to open a hotel that could accommodate the many travelers who were beginning to arrive on Lake Como.

Whether it’s a dip in the famous “Water On the Water” floating pool or a sunset aperitif on the terrace, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo offers a Belle Époque atmosphere that will truly inspire you to dream big.
An icon run by a great family of hoteliers
Thus, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo opened on July 10, 1910. In the 1930s, it became the property of the Sampietro family, then a military hospital during World War II. In 1975, the passion of the De Santis family once again proudly carried on the Grand Hotel’s tradition, celebrating a century of charm and authentic Italian hospitality.
The imposing architecture overlooks Bellagio, offering one of the most spectacular views in the world and combining the charm of the Belle Époque with a vibrant and sophisticated contemporary flair, thanks to the cultured vision of its extraordinary hostess, Valentina De Santis.

Between period furnishings and contemporary craftsmanship
The hotel’s 77 rooms and suites all feature breathtaking views of the lake or the centuries-old park and feature three pools: WOW (Water On the Water), the floating pool right in front of the private beach; the Piscina dei Fiori, nestled in the lush gardens; and the Infinity Pool with a lake view within the T Spa.
Inside, the lounges are a tribute to Made in Italy: cardinal red velvet sofas, frescoed ceilings, antique furniture in patinated wood, and stairways reminiscent of history. Every detail is a little bit of magic, from the fresh flowers to the precious fabrics made in collaboration with leading companies like Mantero, a cornerstone of Lombard craftsmanship.

The Gastronomic Experience: From La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi to Da Giacomo al Lago
The gastronomic offering is a journey of excellence that celebrates Italian culinary culture in five different locations:
• La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi: the only restaurant in the world serving Maestro Marchesi’s iconic dishes, from Riso e oro (Rice and Gold) to Ravioli aperta (Open Ravioli), from Grande Antipasto di pesce (Great Fish Antipasto) to Astice e maccheroni (Lobster and Macaroni), from Dripping (Homage to Pollock) to Rosso e nero (Red and Black) (Homage to Fontana).
• Da Giacomo al Lago: in collaboration with the historic Milanese restaurant, it’s the place to be for a lunch or dinner featuring the freshest fish and crudités, served with your feet (almost) in the water on the hotel’s private beach.
• L’Escale Trattoria & Wine Bar: for those seeking a more intimate and informal atmosphere, amidst ancient cellars and stone walls, where you can taste fine wines and traditional local dishes.
• T Bar & T Pizza: for a sunset aperitif with a breathtaking view or a gourmet wood-fired pizza in the shade of the gardens.

Water and Wellness: WOW and T Spa
The WOW (Water On the Water) pool, nestled directly in the lake, gives you the sensation of swimming in infinity.
For those seeking total relaxation, the T Spa—located in the adjacent 18th-century Villa Emilia—offers exclusive treatments, a hammam, and an indoor pool with spectacular lake views.

The centuries-old park and a vintage tour of the lake
Guests can enjoy a wide range of experiences, including strolls through the 20,000-square-meter botanical garden that ascends to the “Belvedere,” the property’s highest and most panoramic point, or trips aboard Ruy and Batt, the magnificent vintage mahogany boats owned by the property.
One of the most beautiful Grand Hotels in the world.
The Secret
For several years, Gualtiero Marchesi, the maestro of Italian cuisine, had been pursuing the dream of bringing his restaurant to the shores of Lake Como. At the suggestion of his friend, the sculptor Nicola Salvatore, one autumn day in 2010 he visited the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, an icon of Art Nouveau luxury hospitality on the western shore of the lake. From that first meeting, a connection was forged with the De Santis family, owners of the Grand Hotel, and with longtime chef Osvaldo Presazzi.
