Pacifico (MI)
In Brera in Milan, Pacifico has been the lifestyle point of reference for the Nikkei cuisine for years, a place that has entered history also thanks to an original design inspired by the elegant interiors of a cruise ship.
When it opened in 2015, Pacifico really set a trend. It was, in fact, the first restaurant in Italy to offer a fusion cuisine born from the union between the Japanese and Peruvian ones.
A revolutionary project for its time, the result of the research of interior designer Marsica Fossati who, to symbolize the union of the Asian and South American continents, was inspired by a passenger ship crossing the Pacific Ocean. In fact, each area of the room recalls a nautical detail: from the round porthole-shaped elements and mirrors, to the brass finishes, up to the boiserie on the walls.
Pacifico represents a revolutionary vision of hospitality that has made it become a reference brand for international catering, mixology and entertainment.
All the furnishings, apart from a few vintage touches, were made to measure and go perfectly with the very original wallpapers chosen by Marsica such as the Jardin d’Osier by Hermès and those by Fornasetti.
The color palette includes all the wonderful blue tones of the ocean, interrupted only by a few red and orange flashes and by the neon art of the artist Dai Dai Tran which symbolizes, especially in the Island’s Room, the calm waters of the populated pirate islands full with palm trees and tropical birds.
The menu is inspired by the beloved Nikkei cuisine which was born at the end of the 19th century when, thanks to strong migratory flows, Peru hosted various Japanese communities who gave rise to tasty dishes that combine their gastronomic tradition with the South American one.
From ceviche to tiraditos, from tacos to parrilla, there are many recipes revisited with international taste and raw materials, both meat and fish, of the highest quality which have earned Pacifico entry into the most important gastronomic guides, including the Michelin one.
To complete the cuisine, Pacifico’s Pisco Bar offers cocktails inspired by the best international mixology, making it the perfect place for both a romantic dinner and an aperitif with friends, perhaps in the charming outdoor area, among palm trees and director’s chairs in navy tones, overlooking on the central Via della Moscova.
And on the oceanic wave of its success, the group of friends who founded it, gathered in the Salva Tu Alma group, opened Pacifico also in Rome and Porto Cervo, and in 2022 they were once again pioneers of entertainment by launching Ronin – Izakaya , restaurant, listening bar and karaoke – in Milan.
The Secret
Nikkei cuisine apparently originates from the Japanese word “kikkeijin” used to describe Japanese people who emigrated abroad and their descendants.
