In Livigno, in a panoramic position at 1,816 meters above sea level, the Hotel Lac Salin is the only one with an offer, from the natural haute cuisine restaurant to its chalet with spa sculpted in the snow, designed to be one with nature and exploit the healing power of mountain herbs.
The Hotel Lac Salin Spa & Mountain Resort overlooks the wonderful mountains surrounding Livigno, known as “Little Tibet” for its geomorphology similar to that of the Himalayas, a paradise with 115 km of slopes that will be the protagonist of the next Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics.
The many records of this hotel – the first to open in Livigno both a spa inspired by the power of healing herbs and a restaurant of haute vegetal cuisine, the only one boasting a terrace rights on the slopes and a chalet entirely sculpted in the snow, just to name a few – give an idea of the great vision of the family of entrepreneurs who created it.

Without no past there is no future, this is why we bring our history and our values into every gesture and detail of our hospitality.
(Giacomelli family)
Its history begins in the 1960s, when Livigno was still an unknown mountain town, as the Foscagno Pass, which granted access to its roads, had only been opened in 1952. Emilio, known as Milio, in the construction business, and his wife Domenica were among the pioneers of its tourist potential and in 1962 they built their first hotel, the Concordia, which was followed by 7 children, 5 hotels, including the Lac Salin acquired in 1997, 4 fashion stores, 4 restaurants, and 1 fashion e-commerce site, now part of the Lungolivigno SpA group.
The group is led by the third generation of the Giacomelli family, and, in particular, Daniel, a past member of the Italian National Ski Team, as coordinator of all the group’s facilities, and Rebecca at the helm of the Lac Salin, which they manage with total love and dedication, just as their grandparents taught them.

The Hotel Lac Salin is also famous for a curious “sculpture” that is renewed, always different, every year: on its panoramic terrace facing the slopes, there is, in fact, the Snow SPA Experience, a natural evolution of the long journey between snow and art of the Giacomelli family, starting from the artistic manifestations of Art in Ice.
Every season, the artist from Livigno Vania Cusini sculpts an enormous block of snow in the shape of a chalet, this year, until it melts in spring, built in the shape of a suggestive ice spa with an outdoor Jacuzzi.

Inside the Hotel, the wellness path continues in the Resort’s Lac Salin Spa, a 1200 m2 area that pays homage in its name, like the hotel, to the salt and mineral lake at 3,000 m above sea level that it overlooks. One of the 2 pools is inspired by it, the salt one, which offers a great variety of beneficial minerals such as iodine, potassium and magnesium.
The Spa also offers the original Herbal Pharmacy with glass containers full of herbs, vials rich in tinctures and precious oils used in the cosmetic line, in the various treatments, in the delicious herbal teas and even in the essences that, different every day, aromatize the Turkish bath and other spaces.

Among the 62 rooms, the beautiful 3 SPA Suites stand out with wooden and stone furnishings, private spa and hot tub and a splendid panoramic terrace.
Wellness continues at the table, with the 3 restaurants offered by the Hotel led by executive chef Andrea Fugnanesi. In addition to the Lac Salin Restaurant and the Panoramic Fondue, dedicated to the most traditional dishes of Livigno, including fondue, the Hotel hosts Stua da Legn, the first restaurant in Italy entirely dedicated to haute vegetal cuisine, which has already become an international cult destination.

Located inside a characteristic “stua”, the typical rooms used for rest and completely covered in wood, it is an “extract” of the entire philosophy of Lac Salin, from the impeccable service to the extraordinary raw materials of the Alta Valtellina to the “homely” touch of the Giacomelli family, from Daniel’s mother’s collection of cuckoo clocks to his grandmother’s ancient wooden sculptures.
Very warm inside and cold outside. Given its altitude, Livigno is, in fact, one of the Alpine sports destinations where you can ski almost all year round, in a perfect position a few km from Switzerland to live many other unforgettable experiences, such as a trip aboard the Bernina Red Train from Tirano to St. Moritz.
The Secret
Given its particular position on the border, Livigno has not paid VAT since the 16th century. A privilege maintained up to today and which therefore makes shopping there very convenient, albeit with maximum thresholds to respect, divided by type of product.
