In Via della Spiga, Vincenzo Dascanio's wonderful Christmas temporary shop this year celebrates the retro charm of the adventurous Belle Époque, taking inspiration from the Milan Central Station of the early twentieth century.
When you reach n. 30 in via della Spiga in Milan, the Spiga Express train awaits you from the windows of the Xmas Store, ready to leave for a legendary journey back to the “roaring” Twenties, inside a suggestive train station boasting a fascinating Deco architecture from the turn of the century.
Elegant stewards in railway uniform welcome the visitor inside the temporary store; 600 square meters divided over three floors for a boutique made up of small corner shops where you can buy original decorations, accessories, objects and furnishings, as well as a stopping by for a break at the famous VF Cafè.
The train is an invitation to freedom, to dream and not be afraid to take new paths, even or especially at Christmas!
Vincenzo Dascanio, Founder and Creative Director of the homonymous brand, one of the most famous flower designers in the world who has signed the most exclusive wedding parties, for his Xmas Store was inspired by the memories of when, many years ago, he left Puglia by train for Milan with a suitcase full of dreams and hopes.
Open from 10 November to 9 January, seven days a week, from 10 to 19, inside VD Spiga Express each space corresponds to a specific area of the station: the waiting room, the ticket office, the luggage room, the dining carriage, the shopping arcade, the quay, the hairdresser, up to the lost&found office.
All the rooms faithfully reproduce a period station thanks to the careful research of furnishings and details: from clocks to colonial suitcases, from old typewriters to brass lamps, to upholstery and polished wood paneling. Each element contributes to recreating the evocative atmosphere of the “Golden Age” whose imagery is made up of long Grand Tours to discover the world, porters in white gloves, wagons lined with silks and velvets, elegant passengers in evening dresses sipping champagne, heading for exotic destinations.
On the ground floor, in the station waiting room, it is possible to relax in the cosy VD Café, also faithful to the style of the time, sipping a coffee, enjoying the refined gourmet proposals for lunch or stopping in the afternoon for tea or an aperitif.
The Vincenzo Dascanio Café also signs a delicious proposal of “Apulian snacks” based on almond sweets, crunchy pistachio, candied fruit covered with chocolate and other delicacies inspired by Puglia, the designer’s homeland, as well as many original and fun gift ideas such as the Champagne “Drunk of Love” or the home fragrances.
The VD Spiga Express is a truly unmissable stop for Christmas shopping, as well as for all dreamers.
