TENOHA Milano (MI) — Lombardia Secrets

In Milan, the first concept "world" dedicated to Japan in Europe, TENOHA contains the essence of the Land of the Rising Sun in a single place and, from fashion to food, from beauty to books, every detail is the result of careful research to savor its most authentic spirit.

Located in Via Vigevano 18, in the Porta Genova area, TENOHA Milano debuted in 2018 inside a former industrial building from the 1930s: over 2500m2 with a garden which includes a concept store, a restaurant, an exhibition space, a co-working and, a little further on in the same street, a ramen bar.

Opened by SAYU, a leading company in the Italian food import sector in Japan, Tenoha intends to be an active cultural bridge to promote cultural exchange and trade between the two countries.

In Japanese, TE “hand” NO “to” HA “leaf” represents the gesture of “holding out your hands to those who get involved and making new synergies possible”, a metaphor for the growth of trees, which expand, giving life to new leaves.

As soon as you enter, you are catapulted into the colorful world of the store, where you will find a notable selection of products, gadgets (like the bestseller TENOHAmame), and fashion brands imported directly from Japan, many of which are on sale in Europe for the first time and can also be purchased in TENOHA’s online shop.

Adjacent, and completely renovated in September 2023, is the Masu Masu restaurant, a modern izakaya resulting from the collaboration between Teiji Nakamura, an entrepreneur with more than 150 restaurant projects in Japan and abroad to date, and Time & Style, a brand designer based in Tokyo who conceived the elegant furnishings handcrafted in Hokkaido.

The menu is created by chef Akinori Akiyama together with Teiji Nakamura and creatively interprets the main Japanese cooking techniques: Teppan Yaki, Kushi Age, Kushi Yaki, Udon and the characteristic Masu Sushi.

Until November 26th you can also take the opportunity to visit one of the most fascinating exhibitions set up so far in the museum spaces of Tenoha: Stories of Women Samurai, a sensorial journey inspired by the book of the same name by Benjamin Lacombe, with texts by Sébastien Perez, published in Italy by L’ippocampo Edizioni, to immerse yourself in the reconstruction of a “secret” Japanese temple and in the code of warrior women.

The next exhibition? Robotland, which will open on December 21st, is dedicated to the history of robots from all over the world and of all types, from the most modern to the most ancient ancestors. And to always stay updated on organized events, just follow TENOHA Exhibition’s social networks.

A few meters from the concept store, we find TENOHA Ramen Club, a small bar dedicated to the famous Japanese soup with an underground mood with exposed bricks, ultra pop neon and original boxing-inspired decorations on the walls.

At the Ramen Club we not only find one of the best ramen in Lombardy, but also the healthiest, given the Chef Yuki Yoneda’s attention both to the healthiness of food, using only seasonal vegetables and organic meats raised outdoors, and its energy intake. Absolutely must try!

The Secret

Ramen is the typical Japanese dish based on noodles served in meat and/or fish broth, often flavored with soy sauce or miso and various garnishes. Among Takao’s signature dishes is the Vegan Ramen based on vegetable broth and egg-free noodles, sesame cream and soy milk, served with fried tofu, bamboo, spring onions and fried sweet potatoes.
